He handed her the bottle of perfume
she knew it was expensive
all the gifts he gave her were expensive
he gave them to show how much he cared for her
she knew that was his way
that words were not easy for him
so she would smile graciously
and accept them
acknowledging his love
but she knew in her heart
she would give them all back in an instant
to hear him just once
say I love you.

oh a sad one, all the gifts he gave her were expensive... but hope he doesnt stop giving them to her when he gets the guts to say I love you!
Hi Deborah,
Thanks so much for dropping by my blog and reading my magpie tale. I really enjoyed your poem and I love your blog. The caterpillar picture is so cute!
'A man of words and not of deeds
Is like a garden full of weeds'
I hope she learns to appreciate him ;-)
How true that is...beautifully said Deborah! :-)
We all long to hear those words. Great Magpie. Love and Light, Sender
sometimes deeds not words speak louder. Nicely written
Ain't it the truth!
PS Thanks for the visit!
The illusive 'I love you' ... we wait and wait and wait. Nicely written!
Wonderful! a really nice magpie.
Powerful, moving...
Isn't that the truth! Still, a lovely gesture..
Lovely and so well written!
Well said - fine magpie, to be sure!
when you're with a man of action
you gotta settle him down
look him in the eye
and charm those words outta him....
listen real close, now :)

That is so sad. Hope he will say those words soon.
Still, today, the hardest words for some men to say.
Very nice poem.
Three simple words, always appear as difficult on the tongue. Excellent write up! =)

Poignant. I hope it's not your own experience...but better to be loved well by someone who can't express it, than to receive fake love from a person.
I like the simplicity of what you wrote.
oh yes...there is such power in those 3 little words...great write...nice magpie!
Thanks everso much for all your comments x
keep the gifts....say the I Love You....nice..bkm
I love you...why are they so important? It's the gift from the heart and therefore priceless?
Perhaps.
Lovely...
The actions speak louder of the truth. May she hear those words as they be true! For empty words are not worth the space they fill...
so much said, without punctuation! Way kewl.
Ah, yes, we just need to hear them. Often.
That was a wonderful piece.... And so true.. I'm all with you in this... we really need to hear those words often if we know their presence
