Loved

When I was small
I knew who I was
I was told many times
I was lovable
and loved
and I was greeted with smiles
Then life happened
and happened
and I no longer knew
and there were no smiles
and the sun rose and the sun set
and the seasons passed
and I was nothing
felt nothing
became
nothing
and then there was you
and I began to remember
and as I looked in your eyes
I saw what you saw
and I was once again greeted with smiles
and I knew once again
who I was.

I really loved reading this because it captures reality and life so well. Its amazing how when you lose your youth you become so aware of nothingness and it takes another person to point out the good things. Lovely poem thank you for sharing.

I was riding the rollercoaster with you as I read it! Amazing the influence the right person can have in someones life.

Great poem.

This is really lovely and such truth in the fact that in our youth we are so certain of our worth and as we grow older we don't receive the same positive reinforcement and it becomes that much more difficult. It's nice when another can hold up a mirror for you to help your see.

We do hope to see the best of ourselves in our lover's eyes.

Beautiful! I,too, remember being Queen of the World and suddenly becoming nothing! Those awful years! You have described them so lyrically that it almost seems worth the pain.
PS I'm also in Group 20.

Very pretty. When I was small I was told I could not do anything right. I was called names, but that was only by one parent. The other loved me dearly.
